One of the law firm’s key requirements was for the selected network service provider to seamlessly be able to support their European- and U.S.-based Wide Area Network connectivity requirements.

To meet their clients’ demands, the law firm’s networks must handle data-intensive applications and services including high bandwidth video and media transfers, virtualization for larger transport links, data replication and disaster recovery.

In order to ensure the firm had maximum network uptime, they also needed their secondary production network to be diverse from their existing provider. If one of the providers was to lose connectivity, they could re-route critical traffic to the other network.

AboveNet Solution:
AboveNet designed a VPN solution using the AboveNet eMesh service which is Layer 2 multipoint connectivity between multiple customer locations.   

The network was a custom designed fiber network with a fully redundant MPLS backbone.  The network was diverse from their existing carrier’s network and provided the client access to their key office locations and data centers using an Ethernet interface. 

AboveNet Service Benefits:
The client wanted a native Ethernet solution that was cost effective and quickly scaled to add incremental bandwidth with no physical installs or card changes.   AboveNet’s network not only provided the scalability they required, but also reduced the cost per megabit by 50% when compared to their traditional SONET/TDM based network. 

The Ethernet based network provided additional cost savings because Ethernet interfaces are less expensive than SONET/TDM and Ethernet is easier to manage because it requires less people.  In addition the law firm was able to reduce their network downtime by leveraging AboveNet’s VPN network.
