Board of Directors
Jeffrey Brodsky Mr. Brodsky serves as non-executive Chairman of the Board of AboveNet, Inc. and Chairman of the Audit Committee. He is also currently leading Quest TurnAround Advisors, L.L.C.’s role as Plan Administrator of Adelphia Communications Corporation and is Chairman, President and CEO of PTV, Inc. (formerly NTL Europe, Inc.) and has more than 21 years of hands-on financial and operational experience including an extensive background in crisis management and turnaround situations. Mr. Brodsky is also co-founder and Managing Director of Quest Turnaround Advisors. L.L.C., where he specializes in developing business plans, facilitating and conducting restructuring negotiations, arranging new financing, and leading acquisition and divestiture activities. Mr. Brodsky holds a Bachelors degree from the New York University College of Business and Public Administration, and a Masters degree from New York Graduate School of Business. He is a certified public accountant, a Director of EBG Holdings, Inc. and TVMAX, Inc., and a former Director of Comdisco Holdings, Inc. and Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. Mr. Brodsky has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2003. Michael J. Embler Mr. Embler is Vice President in Franklin Mutual Funds, LLC, an investment advisory firm. He has held this position since 2001. Prior to Franklin, Mr. Embler served in various positions during the course of nearly ten years with Nomura Holding America, Inc., most recently as Managing Director. Since July 2001, Mr. Embler has served as Director of Kindred Healthcare, Inc., and has previously served on the Board of Directors for Grand Union Company and several other private companies. Bill LaPerch Bill LaPerch is the President and Chief Executive Officer for AboveNet as well as member of the Board of Directors. A telecommunications industry veteran with more than 20 years experience, he is responsible for guiding AboveNet out of chapter 11 to a profitable and recognized leader in providing optical connectivity solutions for business. Prior to joining AboveNet, Mr. LaPerch served as Senior Vice President of Network Services for MCI where he managed that company’s local, long distance, data and Internet networks. He also held numerous executive-level positions there, including Vice President – Northern Region; Vice President – National Field Operations; Vice President – Eastern Region; Director of Global Services; and Director of Northeast Operations. Previously, Mr. LaPerch held executive positions at NYNEX. Mr. LaPerch is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a B.S. in engineering. He received his M.B.A. from Columbia University. In addition, he has completed numerous executive-training programs at the Brookings Institute and the Darden School of Business. Richard Postma With more than 20 years experience in the telecommunications industry, Mr. Postma is currently Co-Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of US Signal Company, L.L.C., the Midwest’s largest fiber optic carrier network. He also currently serves as Chairman of US Xchange Directories, L.L.C., R.T. London, Inc., P&V Capital Holdings, L.L.C., and RVP Development Corporation. Mr. Postma has also served as Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of US Xchange, L.L.C., and has previously served on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Choice One Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ). Between 1983 and 1996, Mr. Postma has served as General Counsel to Teledial America, Inc., Teledial America of North Carolina, Digital Signal, Inc., City Signal, Inc., and US Signal. In this General Counsel role, Mr. Postma was the lead individual responsible for both the formation and subsequent sale of these operations. Prior to this, Mr. Postma was a Partner in the Grand Rapids, Michigan law firm of Miller, Johnson, Snell and Cummiskey, P.L.C., where he spent 15 years. Throughout his career, Mr. Postma has gained extensive regulatory, legal and management experience in the telecommunications industry, as was instrumental in implementing the first CAP/CLEC strategy in the state of Michigan. Richard Shorten, Jr. Mr. Shorten is Managing Director for Silvermine Capital Resources, a financial advisory, strategic consulting and merchant-banking firm. Mr. Shorten is a seasoned professional with more a broad range of experience in director, senior executive and advisory assignments with communications, technology and related-industry companies. Prior to joining Silvermine Capital Resources, Mr. Shorten was Executive Vice President and Director of Graphnet, Inc., where he had broad-based operating responsibilities for development, finance, marketing, legal affairs and human resources. Mr. Shorten spent two years with Destia Communications, where he was involved in the planning and execution of that companies Initial Public Offering in 1999. Viatel Inc., acquired Destia in December of 1999, where Mr. Shorten was appointed as Senior Vice President, Data Services. Mr. Shorten graduated with honors from Rutgers Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University. Stuart Subotnick Mr. Subotnick is a general partner, executive vice president and co-owner of Metromedia Company, one of the nations largest privately held companies. Mr. Subotnick started with Metromedia as a tax attorney in 1967, and spent two decades in various management roles, becoming Chief Financial Officer in 1981. With the creation of the office of the president, Mr. Subotnick assumed additional operations responsibilities and was named Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration in 1983. Following the liquidation of Metromedia Inc. in 1986, he was elected Executive Vice President of Metromedia Company. Since 1981, Mr. Subotnick has been responsible for negotiating all of the major Metromedia corporate transactions, including the sale of Metromedia’s television, radio, outdoor advertising, paging, cellular and entertainment divisions. |
